Hello World!

Hello world! I am a relatively new runner. I started running in the fall of 2013. Let me begin by saying, it wasn’t pretty. I was 60 pounds overweight, and though I didn’t know it, I was suffering from Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and Celiacs. I couldn’t run half a block that first day. I was slow, out of breath, and basically a hot mess. The shock and embarrassment felt at my weak performance that first time out almost ended my journey. However, I had an agenda and refused to give up. I started with the couch to 5k training plan. It was a game changer.

Over the course of several years, I went from a body that was obese and dying, to a body of a healthy, fit ultra runner. This blog is my story.

I’ll talk about running. I’ll discuss all distances and terrains, running solo and with my 12 year old daughter (who just finished a very hilly 15 mile trail race), the gear and fuels I have found to be successful, and anything else that coincides with running.

I’ll also talk about how I have managed to thrive as an ultra runner with Hashimotos and Celiacs. I’ll discuss meals and the foods I avoid. I see a medical team no less than 4 times a year. Maintenance and awareness are the keys to succeeding.

I’ll reveal what secrets running has given me. The rewards of challenging myself (and others) and seeing that challenge to completion.

I want to qualify for and run Western States. That is my dream. I hope to have my daughter by my side pacing me at all of my distance races.
She just wants to run. Well, and maybe get a running scholarship to Harvard.

It’s been a wild and beautiful ride to this point in my running career. I cannot wait to see what the next few years will bring! Thank you for joining me on this journey! Get ready to run!

  1. You have come a long way in a relatively short time. I’m eager to her your story, in more detail that brief FB posts. I’ve got to Google Hashimoto’s I’ve never heard of that.

  2. Tasha, you are and have been such an inspiration to me!!! I have watched you become healthier and slimmer (even though…I have never seen you the least bit overweight!!) I enjoyPraying for the Lord to give you strength to get through this day! hearing your stories about running whether finishing or having to quit ahead of your goal time. I look forward to following you along your journey!! Remember…God has a perfect plan for your life! Just be patient and allow Him to work in revealing that plan!

  3. My journey was similar. In 1989, I was 200 lbs, pre-diabetic and barely able to play with my son’s who were 2 and 6 years old at the time. One day I left the house and decided to go for a “run” in Keds and a skirt because women weren’t supposed to run! I walked to a utility pole, then ran to another. After about two sets, I was done but the die was cast … I’m all at it, 26.5 years and 144 marathons later! 🙂
